Recent Status of Very High Energy Gamma Ray Astronomy and Prospects
نویسنده
چکیده
Gamma-rays, located at the highest energy band of electromagnetic radiation, is directly coupled to the behaviour of energetic particles created and accelerated in the Universe, which are known as cosmic rays. The information on these energetic non-thermal particles, protons in particular, is hard to obtain through other bands. The results of very high energy -rays are summarized by paying a special attention to the origin of cosmic rays.

High Energy Gamma Rays
This article reviews the present status of high energy γ-ray astronomy at energies above 30 MeV. Observations in the past decade using both spaceand ground-based experiments have been primarily responsible for giving a tremendous boost to our knowledge of the high energy Universe. High energy γ-rays have been detected from a wide range of Galactic and extragalactic astrophysical sources, such a...
متن کاملAstrophysics with High Energy Gamma Rays
Recent results, the present status and the perspectives of high energy gamma-ray astronomy are described. Since the satellite observations by the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory and its precursor missions have been reviewed extensively, emphasis is on the results from the ground-based gamma-ray telescopes. They concern the physics of Pulsar Nebulae, Supernova Remnants in their assumed role as the...
متن کاملGamma-ray Summary Report
This paper reviews the field of gamma-ray astronomy and describes future experiments and prospects for advances in fundamental physics and high-energy astrophysics through gamma-ray measurements. We concentrate on recent progress in the understanding of active galaxies, and the use of these sources as probes of intergalactic space. We also describe prospects for future experiments in a number o...
متن کاملExploring Quantum Gravity with Very-High-Energy Gamma-Ray Instruments – Prospects and Limitations
Some models for quantum gravity (QG) violate Lorentz invariance and predict an energy dependence of the speed of light, leading to a dispersion of high-energy gamma-ray signals that travel over cosmological distances. Limits on the dispersion from short-duration substructures observed in gamma-rays emitted by gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) at cosmological distances have provided interesting bounds on ...
متن کاملCTA - A Project for a New Generation of Cherenkov Telescopes
Gamma-rays provide a powerful insight into the non-thermal universe and perhaps a unique probe for new physics beyond the standard model. Current experiments are already giving results in the physics of acceleration of cosmic rays in supernova remnants, pulsar and active galactic nuclei with a hundred sources detected at very-high-energies so far. Despite its relatively recent appearance, very ...
